Domination of the 'Men in Blue' over the 'Lankans'

The clash between India and Sri Lanka which took place in Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium saw the pure dominance of Indian players in the match. Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to field first.

The 'Men in Blue' lost the early wicket of their skipper Rohit Sharma. After his dismissal, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill went on to complete their 100-run-stand. Kohli missed his well-deserved 49th ODI century by 12 runs and Shubman Gill missed his first ODI World Cup ton by just eight runs. Shreyas Iyer then smashed 82 runs in just 56 deliveries and accompanying him was KL Rahul who was later dismissed for 21 runs. Team India posted a mammoth target of 358 for Sri Lanka to chase down.

Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the innings for Sri Lanka but were returned to the pavilion for a duck. None of the Lankan batsmen were able to score huge runs against India's fierce bowling lineup. Mohammed Shami picked another five-wicket haul and became the leading wicket-taker for India in ODI World Cup. Mohammad Siraj shouldered him and struck three wickets. India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 55 runs. India registered their seventh consecutive win in the ICC World Cup 2023.
