Dabholkar, 65, was instrumental in the Worli team’s progress to the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League’s ‘A’ Division.
“He [Dabholkar] was one of the best batsmen around, a real khadoos cricketer, who led the New Hind side. He was a good off-spinner, brilliant fielder and an ever-smiling person,” Ramesh Vajge, who played alongside Dabholkar at New Hind, told mid-day.com.
Mumbai Cricket Association’s Apex Council member Abhay Hadap, recalled Dabholkar’s days with Worli SC. He said: “We remember him as a consistent performer who used to score big hundreds for Industrial Perfumes in the Times Shield. He led our Worli SC successfully and played a key role in taking our club from Division ‘E’ to ‘A’ in the prestigious tournament.”
Dabholkar, who was sick for a while, coached budding cricketers at Worli SC ground last summer.
