Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away on Monday at the age of 77, dismissed Geoff Boycott just once in Test cricket across three series (all in England), but the duo clashed often in county cricket with Boycott representing his beloved Yorkshire and Bedi turning out for Northamptonshire. “There was aesthetic beauty in Bishan’s bowling,  poetry in motion. It was difficult for a batsman to watch his beautiful, rhythmic action and play.

I remember once driving down the wicket and getting caught on the boundary line. He knew the art of luring batsmen. He was a fighter, a good student of the game and a complete spinner. I heard that he bowled in the nets for hours,” said Boycott from the United Kingdom.

Bedi played for Northants from 1972 to 1977. “He was a great bowler, otherwise he would not have got the opportunity to be part of county cricket in those days. India could dominate through their spinners those days and Bishan was the leader of the pack,” said Boycott of Bedi, who claimed 266 wickets in 67 Tests.
