Ranji Trophy: Services beat J&K despite Rohit Sharma's heroics

Jammu: Leg-spinner Muzzaffaruddin Khalid (7/61) sizzled with a seven-wicket haul as Services thrashed Jammu and Kashmir by nine wickets to grab six points in their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket tournament in Jammu on Friday.


Resuming their first innings at 152/4, Services were allout for 229 in 66.4 overs, taking a 144-run lead. For J&K, Rohit Sharma (4/55) and Umar Nazir (4/75) took four-wicket hauls to help their team.


In their second essay, the hosts found the going tough once again and were dismissed by Services for 161 in 53.5 overs, leaving the visitors with a victory target of just 18 runs at the Gandhi Memorial Science College Ground.


Services then returned to overhaul the 18-run target losing just one wicket.

Earlier, resuming their innings, Overnight batsmen Sufiyan Alam (5) was dismissed only on the second ball on the second day. Yashpal Singh (66) added another 19 runs to his overnight score before becoming a victim of Nazir.

In J&K's second innings, SP Khajuria was the top scorer with a 61-ball 51 which included 10 boundaries. While Khalid's seven for 61 brought the downfall of J&K, DG Pathania (1/44) and RR Raj (1/25) also contributed by snapping one wicket each.
