A bevy of sports stars joined former Australia Test captain Greg Chappell and spent Sunday night sleeping at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as part of Stars SCG Sleepout, at an event hosted by the Chappell Foundation, to raise funds and awareness for homelessness charities.

Chappell was joined by his brother Trevor, cricketers Mitchell Starc, Steve O'Keefe, Alyssa Healy, Lisa Sthalekar and Moises Henriques, rugby stars Nick Farr-Jones, Phil Waugh, David Campese and Steve Mortimer, Olympic beach volleyball medallist Kerri Pottharst, and Michelle Heyman from the Australian women's football team.

The Chappell Foundation was launched 15 months ago. It has no employees working but they rely on volunteers to help them. The charity foundation has already raised $400,000 (approx R2.74 crore) and aim to donate to those groups on the front line of the fight against homelessness. "For a country as affluent as ours, to have over 116,000 homeless people is unacceptable," Chappell told cricket.com.au, adding that approximately 40 per cent of those are under 25.
