The United National Liberation Front has signed a peace agreement with the Government of India and Manipur Govt. The United National Liberation Front, or UNLF is a separatist insurgent group active in Manipur. The armed group has agreed to renounce violence and join mainstream, marking the end of a six-decade-long armed movement. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, some members of UNLF. The return of UNLF to the mainstream will encourage other valley-based armed groups to participate in the peace process in due course. Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the UNLF peace deal.

He also said “When infrastructure improves, it helps trade, talent and tourism. Infrastructure brings investment, industries, and income, and also creates opportunities. During one of my earlier visits to Mizoram, I had promised to work for transformation by transportation, since then a revolution has happened across sectors due to the work of the BJP-led government... Till 2013-14, the total length of National Highways in the Northeast was 11,000 km, we increased it to 16,000 kms in 2023-23...". The Mizoram Assembly election is scheduled to be held from 13 October 2023 to 5 December 2023.
05 November,2023 05:30 PM ISTWhile suffering continues for the victims of Manipur Violence in the state of Manipur, a story of hope has come forward where a section of victims have begun their journey to start a new life again. Imphal East Administration has launched an initiative to provide relief to affected families. Relief camps in Imphal East are providing shelter to distressed locals who lost their homes. At the camps, training is being imparted to women to earn a livelihood for a fresh start. Victims of violence are making products like dishwashing liquids, detergents and incense sticks. Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana Devi informed that “around 3,500 are staying in these camps”. Centre and State Government are making efforts to restore normalcy in Manipur, where Kukis and Meiteis are at loggerheads.

The incident happened on May 4th. The main culprit in Manipur’s viral video who was wearing a green t-shirt and seen holding the woman has been arrested in an operation after proper identification. His name is Huirem Herodas Meitei (32 years) of Pechi Awang Leikai, according to government sources. A day after the video went viral, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on July 20 termed it as a crime against humanity and assured that the government will take efforts to ensure capital punishment for the accused.

Highlighting the Manipur violence, Eric Garcetti asserted that the United States is ready to assist India to bring back peace in Manipur. The situation in violence-hit Manipur remains grim as the unrest among local communities continues. The State and the Centre Governments have taken several steps to bring normalcy to the state. Violence gripped Manipur on May 3 after clashes erupted during a rally organised by the All Tribal Student Union. They were protesting against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes.

A large number of people across the Imphal East district came out to the street and protested a day after 9 civilians were killed on June 14 in Manipur violence. A large team of RAF, AR, and state police rushed to the spot to take control of the situation as a large number of people blocked roads in Bamon Leikai, Wangkhei, and Kongba areas. The area in the jurisdiction of Imphal East has seen such incidents of violence over the last two-three days. Notably, HM Amit Shah visited Manipur in late May and announced a series of measures to restore peace in the state.
16 June,2023 12:08 PM ISTAmid tensions over the ethnic clashes in Manipur, refugees at relief camps narrated their ordeal and expressed worry over their family members' well-being. People from conflict-hit parts of Manipur have taken refuge in several camps in safer areas. Manipur has been witnessing one of the deadliest clashes since May 3. Atleast 52 have died in Manipur since violent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities broke out in the state.
