As Nepal grapples with the aftermath of the Nepal earthquake, India stepped up to help its neighbour by providing aid. In the hour of need, affirming India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, an IAF C-17 Globemaster carrying relief materials headed to Nepal on Nov 05. The flight carried essential relief materials and medical aid for the victims of the earthquake. The medical supplies including life-saving drugs, and surgical items to help Nepal recover from the devastation. India has been one of the first countries to provide humanitarian aid to the people of quake-hit Nepal. On November 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives after a massive earthquake of 6.4 magnitude jolted Nepal in the late hours of November 03. In the deadly quake, at least 157 people lost their lives and hundreds of others got injured. The injured, including women and children, were receiving treatment in hospitals in several parts of Nepal.

In the wake of the catastrophe, Nepalese PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal arrived at the affected areas and took stock of the situation. Nepal was jolted by a massive 6.6-magnitude earthquake on the late night of November 03 and continued to feel aftershocks, with a magnitude of 3.3. Meanwhile, Indian PM Narendra Modi had expressed his condolences as he said that he is ‘deeply saddened’ by the loss of lives. India also released an emergency contact number for Indians who require urgent assistance. Efforts are underway to provide medical assistance to those injured in the earthquake. The earthquake's impact has not been confined to Nepal alone, tremors were felt in several districts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, UP, and Bihar.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicenter of the quake was in Nepal at a depth of 10 km. As many as 128 people lost their lives and at least 141 people were injured in the deadly incident, reported The Kathmandu Post. The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in several states of north India including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his grief over the incident. Jajarkot and West Rukum have suffered the most, with 92 deaths in Jajarkot alone, reported The Kathmandu Post. PM Modi expressed his grief over the loss of lives and damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. Indian PM offered support to Nepal and expressed India’s willingness to extend all possible assistance.
