The city of Mumbai is soaked in the fervour as Durga Puja pandals in Mumbai kicked off the Durga puja celebrations. One of Mumbai’s most famous Durga Puja pandals - Powai Sarvajanin Durgotsav also kicked off celebrations in the evening of 8th October. The first look of Durga Ma was unveiled as scores of devotees gathered to catch the first darshan. On Thursday, August 22, passengers on the Central Railways' Sundarban network staged a protest against poor train services. They wore white attire and black armbands or masks to express their dissatisfaction. This demonstration came after a meeting on August 14 between passenger associations and railway officials, where the concerns were discussed, and potential solutions were proposed. However, the associations found the meeting's outcome unsatisfactory, leading them to organize the protest. Siddhesh Desai from Mumbai Railway Pravasi and Madhu Kotian, president of Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sang, both voiced their frustration on behalf of the passengers. The protest is expected to intensify after 10 am. To rally support, the associations distributed 25,000 black ribbons to passengers. Their demands include reducing overcrowding, giving priority to local trains, and establishing a dedicated suburban railway transport body. The demonstration highlights ongoing issues and seeks immediate improvements in train services.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mumbai today and was received at the airport by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari. PM Modi, along with Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Ramdas Athavale and Bhagwat Karad reached BKC’s MMRDA ground to address a public rally and inaugurate several development projects, including the metro services, the Mumbai One App and NMMC Card.
