In a historic move, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Pakistan on October 15 for the SCO Summit 2024, marking the first visit by an Indian EAM to Pakistan in nearly a decade. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the two leaders exchanged a handshake. Over his two-day stay, Jaishankar participated in the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO, engaging in discussions on critical regional issues. In his address, he took a strong stance against terrorism and extremism, underscoring the importance of the SCO's primary goals. He urged member states to adopt a firm approach against what he termed the "three evils"—terrorism, extremism, and separatism. After concluding his visit, Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for their hospitality via a post on X, emphasizing the significance of dialogue in regional cooperation.
