This visit comes just before the assembly elections on November 20, making it strategically significant. Shinde plans to perform his prayers at the temple on Wednesday. This isn’t his first visit; he previously came in June 2022 with 39 rebel MLAs during a political crisis that led to the fall of Uddhav Thackeray’s government. Shinde became Chief Minister on June 30, 2022, with support from the BJP, and returned to the temple in November 2022 for blessings. As elections approach, Shinde’s party, the Shiv Sena, has yet to announce its candidates.

The statue, which was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4, 2023, during Navy Day celebrations, fell around 1 p.m. The incident occurred amidst heavy rains and strong winds that have affected the Sindhudurg district over the past few days. Experts are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. In response to the incident, Maharashtra State Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar visited the site on August 27 to inspect the damage.
