On August 26, multiple attacks in Balochistan, Pakistan, resulted in 73 deaths, according to Reuters. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) took responsibility for these attacks and issued a statement after completing what they called 'Ops Herof'. Pak terror attack caused chaos, with people fleeing as separatist militants targeted police stations, railway lines, and highways. About 35 vehicles were set on fire on the highways. The violence followed a warning from the BLA for people to stay away from highways in the area. In response, the Pakistani military reported that 14 soldiers and police officers were killed while fighting back. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attacks as "intolerable" and promised a strong response to the violence. On August 26, 2024, a severe terror attack in Pakistan’s Balochistan province resulted in the deaths of at least 51 people. The attackers, who had blocked the highway the previous night, forced passengers off their vehicles and shot them after inspecting their identity cards. In addition to the vehicle attacks, they also targeted police stations and railway lines, setting 35 vehicles ablaze. It follows similar incidents, including one in April 2024 where nine passengers were killed and another in October 2023 where six laborers from Punjab were shot dead in Turbat.

US reacts strongly after Pak conducts airstrikes in Afghanistan

Reacting to Pakistan's airstrikes in Afghanistan, the US has called on Taliban to ensure that terrorist attacks are not launched from Afghan soil while urging Islamabad to exercise restraint and ensure civilians are not harmed in their counter-terrorism efforts, US Department of State Principal Spokesperson Vedant Patel said on March 19 (IST). While addressing a press briefing on March 19, Patel urged the Taliban to ensure that terrorist attacks are not launched from Afghan soil. He stressed that the US remains committed to ensuring that Afghanistan does not become a safe haven for terrorists who wish to harm the US and its allies. Asked about Pakistan's airstrikes in Afghanistan, Vedant Patel responded, "We have seen the reports that Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan in response to the attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on Saturday at a military post. We deeply regret the loss of life and injustices sustained during the attack in Pakistan and the loss of civilian lives during the strike in Afghanistan. We urge the Taliban to ensure that terrorist attacks are not launched from Afghan soil and urge Pakistan to exercise restraint and ensure civilians are not harmed in their counter-terrorism efforts and we urge both sides to address any differences.
