The so-called "fat family" from Dundee were reportedly split up amid concerns over the siblings' welfare.
But the father confirmed that their baby daughter had been allowed to return home.

The 40-year-old mother reportedly weighs 146 kg and her 53-year-old husband weighs about 114 kg. The mother gave birth to her youngest last month.

Dundee City Council intervened earlier this year after questions were raised over the care provided by the couple.

The father, who cannot be named, to protect the identity of his children, said, "We got the baby back on Monday and she's doing fine.

We're working with our lawyer to do all we can to get our other children back."

The children, who also include a 13-year-old boy, also have weight problems. They were removed by social workers following a meeting of the children's panel.

Two children aged three and four were taken into care earlier this year.

The mother said they were being discriminated against because of their weight.

Want others home

"When they took my baby away I couldn't believe it. I had to pull the needle out of my arm and run out of the hospital," she said.

"I love all my children so much and we look after them well. I'm so happy to have my baby back but I just want the others home as well now."

The father said they were addressing the weight issue and were doing the best they could. We feed them well, lots of fruit and vegetables, and no fried foods," he said.

"They're well dressed and they go to school. I know the Council thinks we can't control them, but the fighting is just sibling rivalry."

Three of the children in care are now attending an obesity clinic. The eldest child asked the authorities himself to be taken away from his parents.

The local authority said any decision to remove children from their family would not be made solely on the basis of weight.
