A 76-year-old blind pensioner in England, who was told he would never see again, has baffled eye specialists when he regained his sight after kissing a photograph of his late wife.

George Hudspeth from Daventry, Northamptonshire has been registered blind for 10 years after he was diagnosed with dry macular degeneration, reports the Daily Mail.

He lost his sight completely one year ago and expected to live the rest of his life in darkness.

However, last week his vision suddenly returned moments after he held a photograph of his late wife Sheila, who died in November 2009, as he prepared for bed.

The former Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant was so thrilled he stayed up all night until 5 am watching television in case his sight went again.

The grandfather saw his baby granddaughter for the first time following the incredible recovery.

"I want to tell the world because I am sitting on top of Mount Everest shouting 'I can see." I can't explain it. I can't find the right words. I can see just as well as anybody else. It is truly incredible and I couldn't be happier," Hudspeth said.
