Yes, Prime Minister?

Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

A youth armed with a revolver was detained while trying to move too close to Rahul Gandhi during the latter's march across Uttar Pradesh. Not everyone reacted to this piece of information with alarm.

Manju Joglekar commented: 'Rahul slept on a charpai! Should we give him the Bharat Ratna for this astonishing act of courage?' A certain Deepak, clearly a Harry Potter fan, drew this analogy: 'Rahul wanting to eliminate family and patronage from the Congress youth wing is like Voldemort wanting to eliminate Muggle-borns.'

BN Gupta begged to differ: 'You are free to criticize his moves, but who in the country does whatever little he is doing?' The most amusing tweet came from someone with the handle Khaishk: 'Rahul Gandhi to visit families devastated by the earlier visit of Rahul Gandhi.'

More faces on Facebook
A deluge of tweets was inevitable after the world's most popular social network (you know the one) announced a collaboration with Skype to make free video calls possible.

The announcement didn't generate pure happiness. Frank Conniff tweeted: 'There are going to be huge cuts in Medicare, but we can now get Skype on Facebook, so who cares?' Jill Morris added: 'I am so excited to reconnect with the faces I hate on Facebook Skype!' And, worryingly, this from Gaurav: 'People will now have to be fully clothed while using the Internet.'

What's your problem?
The topic 'go seek some help' yielded responses such as 'if you think there is no more racism.' Also 'if you think that by calling someone 20 times they will answer' and 'if you willingly listen to Justin Bieber.'

The last word
Here's why Salman Khan's tweets ought to come with subtitles: 'u see it n if u like it publicize it, no better publicity than mouth publicity n if u nt, rip it apart, u have the rite n no body else (sic).'
