Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

'Sonia Gandhi is the Katrina Kaif of politics.' That strange statement from a certain Rohit was made following reports that the Congress chief was unlikely to meet Anna Hazare for a discussion on the Lokpal Bill.

Biswajeet Rana pointed out that 'every time Manmohan Singh trends, the next person to follow is Gandhi.

They really are made for each other.' Lolendra Kumar had another bizarre comment: 'The PM has agreed to come under the Lokpal Bill. This is news, because I didn't know Sonia had changed her name to Lokpal Bill.'

Then again, as someone with the handle Offstumped tweeted, 'Gandhi's political instincts should not be underestimated. She may be a poor political manager but, when pushed to a corner, can surprise.'

On space-selling
MySpace, the site bought by News Corporation for $580 million six years ago, was finally sold to advertising network Specific Media for a reported $35 million. Naturally, this prompted many to comment on the imminence of another dotcom bust.

Ben Thomas had a suggestion though: 'While we are all waiting for Google Plus invites, I think we should celebrate this sale by getting MySpace accounts.' Brian Stelter tweeted: 'I am on hold with a News Corp. executive's office. I'm pretty sure the on-hold music is from the film Titanic.'

When you grow up?
'I always wanted to be a ufffd' yielded stock responses ranging from the boring 'singer' and 'billionaire' to the weird 'Pokemon master' and 'Mrs Justin Bieber.'

A certain Charles Prot ufffdg ufffd, however, said he always wanted to be 'a guy who stands and objects at someone's wedding.' Another smart Alec had this: 'I wanted to be a rock, so I got stoned instead.'

The last word
A valid question from filmmaker Shekhar Kapur: 'How can you have effective democracy when the only answer to corruption charges in Parliament is 'you did it too'?'
