In May 2019, Abdul Rashid Qureshi, a resident of Pathan Chawl in Kurla's Qureshi Nagar allegedly suffocated to death under the pile of garbage that caused the roof to collapse over him. Residents from houses built on the hill throw garbage from their homes, onto the roofs of the ones located below them which resulted in many structures developing cracks due to the weight of the garbage. Residents alleged that it is one of the most neglected areas under the BMC. People continue to live among the garbage piles, inviting severe health hazards
32-year-old man Rajesh Maru died in January 2018 at Nair hospital in a freaky and gross case of negligence , trapped under an MRI machine. Maru was killed when he inhaled excessive oxygen that oozed out of the cylinder when he entered the MRI room with a relative, who was there to undergo the scan. A ward boy allegedly told him to carry an oxygen cylinder inside the MRI room. When Rajesh entered that room carrying the cylinder, he was sucked into the machine with tremendous force and died soon after
In a freak accident in November 2017, a 12-year-old girl was killed on the spot and three of her friends were injured after a speeding tempo ploughed into them as they were walking along the road at Marve in Malad near Mumbai. According to the police, the four children had bunked school and were on their way to the beach to have some fun when the accident took place. Going for a joyride on their scooter proved too costly for two friends when they rammed it into a Maruti Ritz car in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The incident took place after 9 pm when the deceased, a 17-year-old resident of Kurla, was riding his Suzuki scooter had bought about a month ago, with a pillion rider, age 18, a resident of Kalina. They reached BKC and were going towards Bandra when the two-wheeler crashed into the car.
A former Doordarshan anchor and yoga teacher was crushed to death after a coconut tree fell on her while she was on a morning walk in Chembur. The victim sustained head injuries and passed away. Her husband blamed the BMC for not permitting the tree to be cut
A slip up in high heels led to the death of a six-month-old baby boy in Kalyan. The incident occurred when the baby's family was attending a wedding in the Matoshri Hall in Kalyan's Ram Baug area. His mother was wearing high heels and carrying him when she was on her way to the ground floor from the second floor. She lost her balance as she was not able to walk properly in the footwear. A six-year-old fell off a horse while on a joyride at Kalaghoda. The girl was there with her parents, older sister and relatives. In a freak incident, a woman slipped on the stairs of her house and fell on her husband, crushing him to death. The lady, who used to weigh 127 kgs was running up the stairs to tend to her son, who was unwell and slipped on a step. She then fell on her husband who was following close behind her.
