Landslides and flash floods triggered by rains led to the closure of 213 roads in Himachal Pradesh with the local meteorological office issuing a `yellow` warning for more heavy rainfall in isolated parts of the state till August 19. According to the officials, 110 people were killed in rain-related incidents and the state suffered losses of about Rs 1,004 crore between June 27 and August 12. The Public Works Department (PWD) suffered maximum losses to the tune of Rs 437 crore. Road opening operations are underway and officials have been asked to ensure that apples and other fruits and vegetables reach the market, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh told PTI on Tuesday.

The Federation of Resident Doctors` Associations (FORDA) on Tuesday said it will continue its strike for a law to ensure the safety of healthcare workers, launched in the wake of the murder of a Kolkata medic. In a post on X the doctor`s body wrote, "No assurance on the Central Healthcare Protection Act--no call off-- our demands remain incomplete." "We will continue the strike until they are fully accepted," it added. Resident doctors of government hospitals across the country went on an indefinite strike on Monday to protest against the gruesome killing of a female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College, paralysing elective services including OPDs and non-emergency surgeries.

Digital devices, Rs 1.5 crore in cash and documents were seized following searches carried out in a money-laundering case linked to an alleged fraud in land acquired by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for projects like the Hubli airport and IIT-Dharwad, the ED said on Tuesday. The raids were carried out on August 9-10 at a dozen premises in Bengaluru and Dharwad, including at the KIADB head office in Bengaluru and zonal office in Dharwad.
