The Supreme Court on Friday gave Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 for campaigning in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta announced their verdict.

Reportedly, the bench said that Kejriwal, who has been arrested in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy case, will have to surrender and go back to prison on June 2.

According to the report, the Supreme Court had refused senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi's request, who is appearing for Kejriwal, that interim bail be granted till June 5--a day after the results of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be announced.

The top court was hearing Kejriwal's bail plea after the latter challenged Delhi High Court's verdict last month that upheld his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case.

The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.
