A livestock development officer of a panchayat samiti in Maharashtra's Gondia district was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 11,000, an official said on Friday, reported the PTI.


A team of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) laid a trap and arrested the suspects who were identified as LDO Jayantprakash Ishwardas Karwade and his aide Mahendra Hagru Gharde on Thursday, the official said.


The complainant who started a poultry business and constructed a shed under a government scheme had approached the accused to release an instalment of Rs 1 lakh, he said.


The accused allegedly demanded Rs 12,000 bribe to disburse the amount but later settled for Rs 11,000.

The man then approached the anti-corruption bureau with a complaint, the official said, according to the PTI.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, a district official was caught while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 in Maharashtra's Latur, an official from the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) said on Friday, the news agency reported on Friday.

Based on a complaint, the anti-corruption bureau officials laid a trap and caught Keraba Shinde, working in the rehabilitation department of the collector office, while accepting the bribe on Thursday, he said.

The accused had allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from the complainant to transfer a certificate in his name, but later settled for Rs 2,000, the official said, adding that further probe is underway.

On Thursday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two employees of state-run power distributor MSEDCL for allegedly accepting a bribe from a fellow staffer in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official had said on Thursday, according to the PTI.

Technician Vijay Umre and senior clerk Kishore Chorghe allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from another employee of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) over posting, the official told the PTI.

The aggrieved employee approached the anti-corruption bureau who laid a trap and caught the technician while accepting Rs 10,000, the negotiated amount, on behalf of the senior clerk on Wednesday, said inspector Nitin Thorat of ACB's Thane unit.

The two accused were later arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the official said.
