Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid foundation stone for multiple developmental projects in Jammu and Kashmir. The total cost of these projects is over Rs 32,000 crore, the press statement from the prime ministers office said. 


The Prime Minister distributed appointment orders to about 1500 new Government recruits of Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi who is on a visit to Jammu also inaugurated AIIMS Jammu, which spans over 227 acres of land, the hospital will have 720 beds, a medical college with 125 seats, nursing college with 60 seats, the statement said.


The developmental projects for which he laid foundation stone includes upgrading infrastructure in several higher educational institutes, road and rail connectivity, projects for strengthening the civic and urban infrastructure, health, aviation, petroleum sectors among others across Jammu and Kashmir.


Talking about the abrogation of Article 370, the Prime Minister said that a new Jammu Kashmir is coming into being as the biggest hurdle to its development was removed and the region is moving in the direction of balanced development, the press statement added.

Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah congratulated PM Modi and the railway ministry on Tuesday for launching new rail projects for Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar said this in connection to flagging off of new trains between Sangaldan in the Jammu division and Baramulla in the Kashmir valley.

PM Modi said that the initiatives will propel holistic development in the state and the government will ensure a Viksit Jammu and Kashmir. “To create a Viksit Jammu and Kashmir, the government is focused on the poor, farmers, youth and Nari Shakti," PM Modi said.

Meanwhile, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir had put in place multi-tier security setup ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu on Tuesday.

On February 17, Jammu District Magistrate had announced a temporary ban on the use of drones, paragliders and remote controlled micro-light aircrafts as a precautionary measure to counter possible activities by the terrorists and anti-national elements.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister drew comparisons between his previous visits to Jammu to Tuesday's event and thanked the people who out in large numbers during harsh weather conditions.
