A labourer rushed her unconscious 35-year-old husband to a private hospital on Friday night claiming he fell off his bed in an inebriated condition, but the police soon suspected she had committed murder and arrested her.
Sushama Hiraprasad (30), may have got away with killing Hiraprasad Shivprasad if it had not been for her daughter spilling the beans while being questioned at Warje-Malwadi police station.

The police said the couple were living in a shanty in Gosavi Vasti in Karve Nagar along with their two daughters, and used to quarrel frequently as Hiraprasad used to return home drunk almost every night.
14-year-old witness
According to what the couple’s 14-year-old daughter Komal told the police, on Friday night Hiraprasad returned drunk and a scuffle ensued during which he tried to strangle Sushama. Komal and her elder sibling rushed to their mother’s aid and Sushama retaliated by gripping Hiraprasad by the throat, following which he became unconscious.
Sushama and her brother then took the victim to a private hospital in Kothrud area and admitted him after claiming that Hiraprasad had fallen off the bed on Saturday morning. The incident would have gone unnoticed, but the couple’s younger daughter informed the police about the fight between her parents on Friday night, which led to her father being strangled.
“Sushama had tried to mislead us by saying that her husband came home drunk on Friday night and became unconscious on Saturday morning. The matter came to light after the daughter mentioned the scuffle between her parents on Friday,” Police Inspector P N Solankar said. Sushama has been arrested under Section 302 of the IPC.u00a0
