After running for peace, Delhi's students are now gearing up to cycle for a greener environment.

On February 8, around 80 students from the Capital's elite institutions will cycle a stretch of 20 km to raise awareness about the environment.

Students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Delhi University will participate in a cycle rally called "2020 Bicycle Ride" to highlight the need to save the environment. Twenty school children will join the rally.

The rally, to be flagged off from the IIT gate, will be divided into four groups of 20 students each. The cyclists will travel to Sri Venkateswara College, AIIMS, Lady Sri Ram College, Kamla Nehru College before returning to IIT.

"Students have eagerly responded but we can only take a limited number of participants. It's a very good platform to educate people about the benefits of keeping the environment clean and green," said NV Maheedhar, IIT-Delhi's National Service Scheme general-secretary.

A few members of a Coimbatore-based NGO have also come to Delhi to participate in the rally. The participants of this NGO, working to achieve former President APJ Abdul Kalam's 2020 vision, have already cycled across 2,020 km of rural areas in eight districts of Tamil Nadu. They plan to cover 20 other places in India in the next 20 months.
