Crowd looks on as the victim faces assault

Delhiites seem to be increasingly becoming a selfish lot especially when it comes to lending a helping hand to the fair sex in distress. An incident that happened two days ago in Vasant Vihar bears a witness to it.

Twenty-five year old Priya (name changed) was heading to Munirka from her home in Vasant Vihar when two men started following her. As she started avoiding them, they started passing lewd comments at her.

When she objected, they attacked her and twisted her arm so badly that she started shouting in pain. "The accused then hit me on my face and I started bleeding from my lips. I somehow managed to push them away and ran from there. Seeing me run, they picked a brick and threw it at me. As I fell, they again started beating me," said the victim in a statement to the police.

Priya also mentioned that while she was being beaten and was shouting for help, several people gathered around but none of them came forward to help. A senior-citizen, who was passing by saw the victim being attacked and rushed to her rescue. The victim with his help then managed to catch one of the attackers while the other one ran away from the scene.u00a0

Police said the accused who was nabbed by the victim herself was identified as Ashish alias Ashu,u00a0 a resident of Trilokpuri. His accomplice was arrested on Wednesday.

Saket incident

After MiD DAY had reported the story of the attempt to abduction and molestation of a northeastern girl working with a BPO, Delhi police had detained an associate of the two African males who were accused in the case.
The victim was on her way home after collecting her debit
card from a private bank in Saket when she was attacked. Meanwhile, a police official close to the investigation said that the culprits who allegedly attacked the victim may have fled the city. "We have informed the airport authority to stop them from flying out of the country," said the official.
