Wife of Vijay Dabhade says either RTI activist murder trial should start without delay or spouse should get bail as he's in bad shape

Vijay Dabhade, the accused in RTI activist Satish Shetty murder case, is on an indefinite hunger strike in Yerawada jail since January 1.

Dabhade's wife Roopali said her husband was in a bad shape in the jail and either the hearing of Shetty murder case should start immediately or her husband should get bail because of his ailing health.

Roopali claimed her husband was innocent and that he had been framed in the crime though the complainant Sandeep Shetty, brother of Satish Shetty, had never mentioned Dabhade's name in the crime. "It is really sad that innocent people are arrested and actual culprits go scot-free," she said.

Dabhade was reportedly badly beaten up in the jail by the police. He has a serious right arm problem and has been suffering from high BP and has just recovered from Chikungunya. "The honourable court should grant him bail as he has already been kept in the prison for the last 11 months," she said. "We are ready to cooperate with the legal system and court proceedings but I am worried about my husband's health."

Dabhade had also written a letter to the Chief District Judge requesting him to start the court proceedings immediately. "My husband had applied for the same on August 17, but nothing has happened till date," said Roopali. "My husband was beaten up in police custody and was hanged with ropes that resulted in a serious arm problem. He had also undergone an operation for hernia."

Sandeep Shetty said that Dabhade was never a prime suspect in the murder. "I had not even mentioned his name in my FIR. So far nothing has been revealed by those arrested by the police. I am not making any comment on the police investigations but there is not much progress so far," he said. "CBI has also been investigating the issue for the last four months."
