Pollution leads to 25 per cent rise in respiratory conditions in a month

City doctors blame pollution for the 25 per cent rise in respiratory conditions like allergic rhinitis, cold, cough and dust-induced allergies in the last one month.



"We are also witnessing rising instances of bronchial asthma due to vehicular combustion. Growing pollution and smog have compounded the problem in the last 10 years.

There has been a rise of six per cent in paediatric asthma and two per cent rise in asthma in adults in the period," said Nitin Abhyankar, a chest specialist.

According to general practitioner Dr Dilip Deodhar, cases of allergic rhinitis (cold) and asthma are growing.

"More that 25 per cent of patients who consulted me in the last 30 days suffer from these conditions," he said.
Dr Arundhati Bhat, an ayurvedic practitioner in Sahakar Nagar, confirmed that the problem was so severe that she was running short of drugs. "Pollution alone is to blame," said Bhat.
