Summer swimming classes have not begun at the Dadar swimming pool yet, as only one organisation has come forward with a proposal to teach the sport
This May, if you thought you could enroll yourself for swimming summer camps at the swanky Dadar swimming pool which opened to the public last year, you were mistaken. It seems that the BMC will start the training camps after summer, as only one training organisation has come forward to teach swimming to students.

An official at the Dadar swimming pool, on condition of anonymity, said, “Unlike other swimming pools in the city, classes haven’t begun here. Only one organisation has applied and we haven’t cleared them yet. We’ve received many enquiries regarding summer batches, and I am sure people must have enrolled at other swimming pools by now.”
The 10-lane, Olympic-sized swimming pool and the neighbouring cluster of three pools — a 16-ft deep pool built exclusively for diving, a recreational pool, and a shallow pool for kids — were opened for public use in November last year.
Milind Shahani, manager of the swimming pool, said, “The private organisation which wanted to conduct summer training camps here has not paid the municipal corporation yet.” He added that the organisation was supposed to begin the camp from May 9 to June 9. Deputy Municipal Commissioner (gardens and security) Suhas Karvande said that private organisations can hold special summer classes beside the regular ones at the pool premises and there are some proposals. “They have to pay rent per-hour to the corporation which is around Rs 7,000- Rs 8,000.” He added that all the BMC pools have been functional this year except the one at Chembur, which is under renovation. The pool in Kandivli shut over three years ago for repairs.” Karvande said four pools in Andheri, Mulund, Goregaon, Ghatkopar and now Dadar are functional. “The renovation at all these pools was completed on time and they are open to members now.”
