Highlights: Catch India's Oscar entry Harischandrachi Factory (November 16, 6.30 pm) based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke and other Marathi films at 'Nave Valan' (New Turn) organised in association with the Government of Maharashtra.

What: Nine-year-old Sufi fest
When: November 19, 21, 22, 2009
Where: Manik Sabhagriha, Bandra and Horniman's Circle Gardens, Fort
Highlights: For the first time, Ruhaniyat, the Sufi and mystic music festival has added another day to the festival (November 19 in Bandra) to cater to its audiences in the suburbs. Expect old favourites Paravathy Baul, and Sufi musicians from Rajasthan.

What: Shubha Mudgal and Ajoy Chakraborty live

Highlights: Expect mood-shifting raags and multi-ranged interpretations of the thumri and dadra in Ras Barse. The line-up includes vocalists Shubha Mudgal, Ajoy Chakraborthy, tabla exponents Aneesh Pradhan and Yogesh Samsi alongwith Sudhir Nayak and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium.

What: Fusion concert by Rahul Sharma

Highlights: Santoor exponent Rahul Sharma and group scale the wide range of genres from classical to folk to trance and film music in a concert titled 'One World Many Musics.' The ensemble includes Aatur Soni on the drums, Aditya Kalyanpur on the tabla, Prasad Sashtey on the keyboard and Manas Chaudhry on the bass guitar.

What: Animation film based on Ramayana with jazz score

Highlights: Sita Sings The Blues, the animation film by Nina Palay based on the epic The Ramayana has won rave reviews worldwide and is set to jazz vocalist Annette Hanshaw's numbers

What: Chamber music festival

Highlights: The 14-year-old Mehli Mehta Foundation brings down music director of the prestigious New York Philharmonic Alan Gilbert on viola for Sangat, its annual chamber music festival. Pianist and composer Marc Neikrug's whose compositions have been performed at major festivals and opera houses is another must-watch at the festival this year.

Highlights: Poets across the country congregate including names such as 1. Prof. (Dr.) Shafi Shaikh (Noida), Nida Fazli (Ahmedabad), Dr Mohd Qasim Imamuddin (Delhi)Shahid Latifu00a0 (Bareilly), and Mumbai's Javed Akhtar amongst others

What: Sufi Music Festival

Where: Tata Theatre, NCPA
Highlights: Sama'a: The Mystic Ecstacy, the two day Sufi music fest with sitar maestro Shujaat Husain Khan, presenting ghazal and other compositions by Amir Khusrau and Kabir. Langas and Manganiyars from Rajasthan interpret Sufi poets such as Baba Bulleh Shah, followed by qawwali by Salim Hasan Chishti, a group from Fatehpur Sikri.

What: Ramayana-inspired dance

Where: Experimental Theatre, NCPA
Highlights: Dravya Kaya, a visceral dance duet by contemporary Bharatnatyam exponent Navtej Singh Johar is inspired by the Ramayana and explores the connection between dravya (object) and kaya (body).

What: Chhau dance in Mumbai
When: January 28, 29 and 30, 2010, 6.45 pm
Where: Prithvi Theatre, YB Chavan Centre
Highlights: The 18th Keli festival will focus on the different traditions of the Chhau dance that originated in the 12th century including the Purulia Chhau from Bengal, the Mayurbhanj Chhau from Orissa and Serraikella tradition from Bihar. The dance form is being performed in Mumbai after 15 years.

Highlights: The festival organised by Surabhi India will bring Indian crafts and performing arts across India at one venue

What: Indo-German chamber orchestra

Where: Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA
Highlights: The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the oldest chamber orchestra in the world, will perform with some musicians with Symphony Orchestra of India. Bach, Mozart, Dvorak, Beethoven amongst others will be part of the programme.

What: Arts festival featuring Zakir Hussain vs Karaikudi Mani
When: January, 8-10, 2010
Venue: various venues at NCPA
Highlights: The Tala Vadya Kacheri, an ensemble of North and South Indian percussions is the inaugural event at Anubuti, the NCPA arts fest. Expect an explosive first ever collaboration between Ustad Zakir Hussain on tabla and mrdangam maestro Vidwan Karaikudi Mani. Other highlights include Roopantar, a film workshop on Shakespeare, screenings including Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood and Vishal Bhardwaj's Maqbool.u00a0 Plus, a Mumbai-inspired play written by Gulzar.
