New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday handed over chaadar to be offered at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer Sharif to Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi also handed over chaadar to be offered at the dargah, a party release said. She handed over the chaadar to party leaders at her residence in the capital. According to an official release, the prime minister greeted the people on the occasion of the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

He said India has been a land of sages, saints and prophets for thousands of years. Recalling Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti's message of amity to his followers, Modi said it continued to be relevant. The 803rd Urs (annual festival) of the revered Sufi saint began on Monday.
