Local women, particularly housewives and factory workers, have been warned to be cautious of astrologers from India.
NV Subbarao, Consumers Association of Penang officer, has said there had been an invasion of these astrologers due to the Ponggal and Thaipusam celebrations, The Star reports.

According to Subbarao these astrologers at first frightens their clients that they are going to face problems soon, then convinces them to undertake 'special prayers' and in the process charge them with an inflated amount of money.
He further said some of these even scared their clients by saying that there were ghosts in their house or their neighbor was drawn in black magic.
They would then persuade their clients to perform exorcism ceremonies, which cost them a fortune.
Subbarao said some asserted they had special talismans blessed at famous Hindu temples and charged hundreds of Malaysian Ringgit for them.
