Thane (Maharashtra): A mystery technical error has resulted in an SSC Board topper from Ulhasnagar town, with 99.8 percent marks, failing to secure a college seat anywhere in the city. State Education Minister Vinod Tawde intervened on Wednesday to ensure the student got a seat in a reputed Mumbai college.

Sakshi Rajani, among toppers in the district, is a student of Sacred Heart School in Kalyan, and was shocked when she failed to make it to the first general merit list of admissions announced here on Monday.

Enquiries with the University of Mumbai revealed that though her admission form was filled on June 10 and 11, it was "reset" after five days.

How the "reset" occurred is not known. She got a message reading "You have not been allotted a seat".

Faced with the grim prospect of Sakshi Rajani losing an academic year, Education Minister Vinod Tawde spoke to the student on Wednesday and assured all help to her, an aide said on Wednesday.

Ulhasnagar legislator Narendra Pawar from the Bharatiya Janata Party called on the distraught family and spoke with the Deputy Directorate of Education officials.

Later, Tawde spoke with the management of the Kelkar & Vaze College in Mulund and ensured a seat for Rajani through the management quota.

This will provide succor to the student who will now be spared of the ordeal of applying through the off-line process for the left-over seats in non-reputed colleges after all admissions are completed through the online process.
