A kidnapped Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority official was rescued early on Wednesday and three of his alleged abductors shot dead in an encounter with police.

Shankar Dutt, the personal security officer of Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority CEO, was kidnapped around 5:30 pm last evening when he was returning home from office, police said. Kidnappers then called his family members in Delhi and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakhs.

The family members informed police who traced the kidnappers. The car in which the alleged kidnappers were travelling was traced around 5:00 am this morning in Sector 88. Kidnappers fired at the police team which retaliated. Three kidnappers were injured in the encounter and rushed to a district hospital where they were declared brought dead, they said.

"There was firing from the criminals when they were asked to stop following which police fired in self-defence. The criminals got injured and taken to hospital where they were declared dead," Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida, AK Singh said.

Dutt has been admitted to a hospital for a check-up. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the kidnappers.
