The case of missing girls turns out to be an accident as one friend tried to save the other from drowning

In a development in the case of the two high school girls who went missing on Monday afternoon, an eyewitnesses claimed that one of the girls accidentally fell in the canal, while other jumped next in order to save her. The two girls, who were close friends, both drowned following the incident.

Fire Brigade fished out Priyanka Kailas Ovhal's (17) body from Satavwadi while Komal Suresh Pawar's (18) body was recovered from Ramdara in Lonikand yesterday afternoon.

According to a witness, the girls went near the canal to wash their hands after celebrating Holi at their school on Monday afternoon. Senior Police Inspector Pandharinath Mandhare said, "Some boys residing near Hinganemala have informed us that Priyanka entered the canal first to wash her hands and as she did, she slipped.

Allegedly Komal entered the water to help her friend but both drowned consequently." Mandhare added: "Prima facie it looked like an accident as we have confirmed from their family members and teachers that the girls were not in stress, thus ruling out a suicide attempt."
