Filmmaker Gyan Correa's Gujarati film, The Good Road, has been chosen to represent India in the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards
A truck driver fakes his accident to support his ailing parents with the insurance money; a couple search for their son who gets separated from them on a highway, while an 11-year-old girl looks for her grandmother who stays on the other end of the road.

These three stories intertwined in a unique way form the crux of The Good Road, the first Gujarati film to have made it to the Oscars. Directed by debutant filmmaker Gyan Correa and starring Sonali Kulkarni and Ajay Gehi, the movie has been produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and shot in Kutch, Gujarat.
“It was a unanimous decision to select The Good Road,” said filmmaker Goutam Ghose, who headed the selection committee appointed by the Film Federation of India (FFI).
The movie, which won the award for Best Gujarati film at the 60th National Film Awards earlier this year, left behind 21 other contenders, including The Lunchbox, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, English Vinglish, Vishwaroopam, Malayalam film Celluloid and Bengali film Shabdo, he said.
“The Lunchbox was a very strong contender. I loved the film,” said Ghose, adding that a committee of 16 people was appointed to make the selection. The Oscar ceremony will take place in March 2014.u00a0
