For a police constable, to lose his cap can be a cumbersome thing. For it is required that he file a missing complaint, failing which it can be considered an offence.

On September 22, an auto driver deposited a cap of a constable with a police station. But till date, no one has come to claim ownership of the cap. The reason is simple. Instead of facing an inquiry that will follow, the anonymous constable has chosen to keep mum.

Tushar Pawar, the rickshaw driver who found the cap near Dr Ambedkar Statue near West End Cinema, Cantonment, said, "The cap was dusty and was in a ugly state. The national emblem on the cap was also covered with dirt." Pawar had met DCP (Traffic) Manoj Patil to hand over the cap. Patil told him to submit it at the Bund Garden police station. "It is really surprising that no one has come forward," he said.u00a0

Sushma Sawant, police inspector, Cantonment Police Station, said, "The police constable who had lost the cap should have registered a missing complaint. There is always a possibility of its misuse."
