Colleagues clueless about the suicide
A 46-year-old policeman hanged himself from a tree on the premises of the police station where he was posted on Wednesday night.
A fellow policeman discovered Rambhaji Baburao Thorat, a constable with the Cantonment police station, hanging from the tree yesterday morning.
No suicide note has been recovered from the spot and the police are investigating theu00a0 reason behind him taking the extreme step.
Thorat, who hailed from Manchar, lived with his wife and two children at Kaveri Nagar police quarters in Wakad.
He had joined the police force in 1990 after completing a masters in commerce.u00a0
u00a0Rajendra Thorat, brother of the deceased, said, "Rambhaji rarely visited his native place. He was normal and never complained ofu00a0 stress or problems."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Rajesh Kumar More, said, "Thorat was an introvert andu00a0 only spoke to people around regarding work. Once the bereaved family recovers from the shock, we will conduct a thorough investigation."
More, however ruled out the possibility of work-related stress and said that Thorat resumed duty on Wednesday after three days leave.
Thorat was transferred to the Cantonment police station last August and before that he had worked at the Pimpri police station in the stores division.
On the fateful night, though Thorat had finished his duty at 9.30 pm, he stayed back on the premises of Cantonment police station, said Inspector Sushma Chavan.
