NMMC's fire departments will spend Rs 3 crore to purchase two water tankers, which can hold 12,000 litres, one mini and one regular fire tender and one fire rescue vehicle
With a view to minimise the response time to disaster and taking note of the recent building collapse in Mumbra and Dahisar, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) fire department is aiming to equip itself with hi-tech fire fighting equipment.

To modernise its fleets of fire tenders, the fire department has allotted Rs 3 crore to purchase state-of-the-art fire fighting vehicles.
The shopping list includes two water tankers, which can hold up to 12,000 litres of water each, one mini fire tender, one regular fire tender and one fire rescue tender. The department is expecting to take delivery of the new trucks in six to seven months.
The satellite city’s fire department has been demanding for latest equipments for long, as it was not able to tackle emergencies swiftly due to the ageing current fleet of vehicles.
The department currently has 12 vehicles and the intention is to ensure world-class standards in fire fighting and disaster management in the coming years.
“The modern fire vehicles are well equipped and will improve reliability and performance during any fire mishap. Even the fire rescue tender is fitted with the latest gadgets and will be of great help during disasters,” said Vijay Rane, chief fire officer, NMMC.
The fire department had put in the requisition for the new vehicles three months ago, and it was sanctioned a week back. The new vehicles will be distributed between the fire stations of Vashi, Airoli, C B D Belapur and the newly constructed fire station at Nerul.
