With heavy downpour, waterlogging may be at its worst

BMC in no hurry to solve issue of clogged roads

Waterlogging continues to remain a major issue this monsoon and by the looks of it, our civic bodies seem to be in no hurry to solve the issue.

The Brihanumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took more than a week to present their analysis of 16 new areas (which included Kurla, Goregaon, Juhu depot area among others) that got flooded on July 2, the last time the city witnessed heavy downpour. Besides blaming an increase in the intensity of rainfall this year, the corporation also claimed that four out of the 16 areas were flooded due to choked drains and bad repair work. But neither any action was taken against the contractors nor were they fined.

Official speak
SVR Srinivas, additional municipal commissioner, in charge of storm water drains in the city, said, “We will investigate the cause of waterlogging and necessary action will be taken. There are about 129 areas prone to floods. Twelve areas faced an issue due to capacity issues while four areas (got flooded) due to improper work,” he explained.
