Though a large section of city folk may not take too kindly to arrogant auto drivers, one individual made a huge difference to students of a school in the city this Independence Day.

Proud Indian: Shivkumar was visibly thrilled at the opportunity given
to him

Popularly known as autorickshaw Shivkumar, he was invited to be chief guest for a function at the Sajjan Rao Vidya Samsthe in VV Puram. Known for his honesty and patriotic fervor, Shivkumar, a staunch supporter of Anna Hazare, has been organising events for freedom fighters and leading the battle against corruption.
After speaking at the function and enlightening students on various aspects related to freedom and the value of a corruption-free nation, they have lovingly bestowed him with the title 'Auto Anna'.

"Honesty should be inculcated in students at educational institutions. Parents and teachers should set proper examples and only then can we work against corruption and truly be a sovereign state," he said. Shivkumar was visibly thrilled at the opportunity given to him and said that he would always remember and cherish the time spent with the 800 students at the school.

"We normally buy flags on Independence Day and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Instead, we should all use the day to come together as Indians, forgetting religion, colour and race, which truly signifies complete independence," he added.

When questioned about their choice for a chief guest at the I-Day function, the school authorities claimed that he was their first mutual choice. "We have seen the work Shivkumar has been doing, which led us to consider him as the ideal guest," explained N Mangala, Principal, Sajjan Rao Vidya Samsthe.
