Wish to transfer your grand old Maruti 800, Ambassador or Fiat to Delhi? Here's good news. The Surface Transport Ministry has recently written to Delhi government, granting permission to register Euro-III vehicles which owners want to be transferred to Delhi from any other part of the country. 
"We have received a letter recently from Government of India allowing local transport authorities to register cars which owners wanted to be moved from other cities to Delhi," said a senior transport department official.
In April, 2010, the Government of India had banned registration of Euro-III vehicles in 13 cities including Delhi. Thousands of vehicle owners across the country were affected by the decision. As per the new norms, the government had allowed registration of Bharat Stage IV vehicles in these cities and Bharat Stage III norms came into effect in the rest of the country.u00a0
Due to the new norm, the bestselling automobiles in India until 2004, Maruti 800, Hyundai Getz, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Fabia, Chevrolet Tavera, Tata Sumo Victa, Palio Stile, entry level Ford Ikon, Mitsubishi Lancer were not being registered in these cities as they were either BS-II or BS-III compliant.
Apart from these other cars include Lancer Evolution Evo, Mitsubishi Pajero, Indica V2 and 'king of Indian roads' Ambassador which were not being registered in these cities post April 1, 2010.
"Government has clarified that these phased out vehicles can now be transferred to Delhi in the owner's name. If he wants to register the vehicle in one of his family member's name, he will have to take permission from state transport department," said the official.
The new rule has come as a breather for lakhs of people who are frequently transferred from one place to other, including Delhi. "We were getting numerous representations from individuals and organisations in this regard since the time the new rule came into force. It will not only benefit Delhiites but also those who live in other 12 cities," the official added.

| As per estimates, Bharat Stage IV standards will cut emissions by half from new vehicles. Bharat Stage III standards are expected to reduce emissions by about 38 per cent from Bharat Stage II levels. BS-IV emission norms are now prevalent in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Surat, Ahmedabad, Pune and Solapur.
