According to Makemytrip there has been 35% drop in domestic air fares and 16% drop this summer compared to 2015. According to the portal, the average domestic fares in the April-June quarter have decreased on an average by upto 35% on certain domestic routes and upto 16% on international routes. Diwakar Pareek, Vice President online revenue Makemytrip "Domestic market continues to grow at a very healthy rate and attractive sales by airlines have further energized travel to domestic and foreign destinations like Dubai, Colombo, Kathmandu, New York, London, Singapore, Bangkok etc. While Delhi-London and Bombay-New York average fare in June 2016 saw a drop of 16%, the reduction in fares helped to create new demand for air travel on these routes."
He further added, "With airline like IndiGo and Vistara adding more frequencies and destinations and resurrection of SpiceJet in the domestic market, we are seeing positive passenger movement and have seen airfares stabilize in the April-June quarter vis-à-vis last year. International airlines are also offering attractive discounts and adding more seats on key international routes. With a heavy advance purchase for the summer vacation period and the upcoming high travel season, we expect the overall numbers to maintain the robust growth.”
After Air India, SpiceJet and GoAir Jet aoreays too came up with sale this week. The five-day #GetMore offer made flyers to avail substantial savings of up to 20% on base fares applicable on tickets booked between June 2 to June 6, for travel between June 25 and September 30, 2016. The airline made it will be valid on all direct flights on its domestic network.
Commenting on this Jet Airways sale Sharat Dhall, President, Yatra.com said, " Jet Airways launched an airfare sale of upto 20% off on flights within India. This sale across sectors comes as a stimulus for travellers booking for the lean monsoon period. We have already received a very strong response from travellers with Jet Airways bookings going up by over 50% over normal.”
It has also been learnt that the mobile bookings that have been extensively used by the passengers for booking their air tickets have largely contributed in its sale. Around 30% of the total air tickets sold are done through mobile apps thus making it favourable for both the airline and the passengers.
