46 per cent vote in Mumbai; Maha polling at 48 per cent

Mumbai voter turnout was 25.7 per cent at 3 pm, according to election officials. The average turnout turnout in Mahrashtra was 40 per cent at 3 pm

Around 46 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Mumbai at the end of polling for the assembly elections Tuesday evening. Maharashtra recorded around 48 per cent voter turnout, an official said.

Moderate to heavy polling was today registered in the other twou00a0states in the assembly election as per reports at 1500 hours. While an estimated 70 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in Arunachal Pradesh, the turnout was around 50 per cent in Haryana.

According tou00a0reports at 3 pm, Versova recorded 60 per cent voter turnout, whcih is the maximum in Mumbai.

Sewriu00a0witnessedu00a030 per cent turnoutu00a0, Goregaon 25 percent,u00a0 Bandra (West) 24 per cent, Wadala 27 per cent, Worli 25 per cent while Chembur recorded 25 per cent turnout.

Bollywood celebrities includingu00a0Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Gulzar turned out in full force to vote in the Maharashtra Assembly polls and sent a message--election is a tool of change and don't waste your ballot.

Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar were among the prominent celebrities who cast their votes in the last one hour of polling.


The stars that also included Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham came out in droves from their airconditioned homes to wait in queue patiently for their turn to vote.


Lyricist Javed Akhtar and his actress wife Shabana Azmi were among the early voters.


"The voter turnout is low we hope numbersu00a0to pick up into the day," said Sanjay Bhagwat, deputy district collection officer.

Except for two minor firing incidents in naxal-hit Gadchiroli district, polling in Maharashtra is by and large peaceful, Director General of Police in-charge of elections, A N Roy said here today.

Roy said police had received reports of firing in Kasansur and Bonde villages, but there was no casualty.
