3-year-old suffocates to death after getting locked inside car in Pune

Pune: A three-year-old lost his life on Sunday after he locked himself inside his relative’s car. The child was rushed to Aditya Birla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy has been identified as Tanmay Sayajirao Shinde (3), a resident of Balareshwar society, Rupee Nagar, in Nigdi. The Nigdi police, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pune city police, has filed a case of accidental death.

Inspector in-charge Sanjay Naik-Patil of Nigdi police station said, “On October 11, at around 3.30 pm, Tanmay was playing in the parking lot of his society with his friend. Later, he sat in his relative’s car and started playing inside all alone.

After some time, due to the car’s central locking, he got stuck inside. The parents were busy entertaining their guest in whose car Tanmay had got stuck.”

Missing from home He added, “An hour later, his mother noticed that Tanmay was missing from home.

They all started  searching for him at his friends’ and other neighbours’ houses. Finally when he was untraceable, the family went to the car to drive to the police station. That’s when they found him unconscious in the car.”

Assistant police inspector Ragunath Unde from the Nigdi police station said, “Around 6.30 pm on Sunday, we received a call from the hospital and they alerted us.

We rushed to the hospital and recorded the statement of the parents but they have no grievances against the relative in whose car Tanmay was found unconscious.

The viscera is kept preserved but preliminary investigation report mentions that the boy died due to suffocation. We are investigating, and after the viscera report, the conclusion will be drawn.”
