Two people were arrested by the anti-extortion department for threatening a land agent and demanding Rs 10 lakh.
The arrested persons were identified as Anil Dnyandev Mankar (43) and Kapil Ramesh Kothari (32), both from Chinchwad.u00a0The police said the accused had already taken Rs 12.50 lakh from the land agent before making a fresh demand for Rs 10 lakh.

The land agent lodged a complaint at the Chatushrungi police station about the threats and extortion attempt.u00a0The police said the accused made their demands after learning about a deal involving 79 gunthas of land in Ravet that the agent was making with a buyer.
“The land dealer had around 79 gunthas of land and a deal with a person was going on when the accused came to know about it and started threatening the dealer for money,” Police Inspector Sachin Sawant of the anti-extortion department said. “The duo to told the land agent they would create a problem in the deal by going for litigation.”
The police said the land dealer met the first demand of Rs 12.50 lakh with a cheque payment, but Mankar and Kothari then made a new demand.
“After getting Rs 12.50 lakh, the duo did not stop and started demanding Rs 10 lakh more,” Sawant said. “They started threatening not only the land dealer but also the person who bought the land from the complainant.”
The police said the threats began in July after Mankar and Kothari came to know about the deal worth Rs 2.50 crore. u00a0According to the complaint, the two approached the dealer at his home and called him on several occasions for money. “After the deal they started threatening the buyer as well,” Sawant said. “When the buyer communicated this to the agent, he lodged a complaint against the duo.”u00a0
