Before staging a sit-in protest in the well of the house at the university’s Fort campus, the protestors conducted a symbolic walkout
The protesting members argued that the budget had neither been presented nor approved in the Management Council
They also claimed that the Budget was not listed on the agenda of the March 12 meeting, and therefore, could not be tabled at the Senate session
The university officials, however, countered that the Budget was included in the minutes of the meeting, which were duly discussed and approved
Last year, the administration had created a row after stating that prior permission is required for organising events, warning that unsanctioned gatherings will be illegal. The decision faced backlash from student organisations and activists, who see it as an attempt to stifle free expression
