In Mumbai, media organisations united for a candlelight vigil in support of NewsClick journalists and it was held at the Mumbai Press Club premises.
Similarly, journalists in Kolkata gathered at the Kolkata Press Club to condemn the crackdown on NewsClick.
In the southern city of Hyderabad, journalists took out a rally as well and held banners in support of the scribes who were arrested or detained.
Apart from media organisations, political parties too held protests. On October 4, Nationalist Congress Party workers led by Jitendra Awhad staged a demonstration in Thane against the crackdown.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, CPI(M-L) and SUCI (Communist) held protests condemning the Union government over crackdown on Press.
Delhi Police’s special cell on Tuesday raided residences of all scribes associated with NewsClick, seized their phones and laptops for probe into alleged foreign funding.
The Delhi Police had detained several journalists and later in the day arrested Prabir Purkayastha, founder of NewsClick and HR head Amit Chakravarty under UAPA.
