Mumbai on Monday recorded two new coronavirus cases, while no fresh death linked to the infection was registered in the metropolis, said the local civic body.
With this, the city`s overall COVID-19 tally rose to 11,55,364, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,747, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bulletin. The financial capital had recorded 12 cases and zero fatality on Sunday. Five patients recovered from the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 11,35,578, said the bulletin. (PTI)

A sessions court in Maharashtra on Monday allowed a prosecution plea for an in-camera hearing on the bail application of television actor Sheezan Khan, arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his co-star Tunisha Sharma late last year. Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Sanjay More said he moved the plea before Additional Sessions Judge SM Deshpande at Vasai in Palghar district seeking an in-camera hearing of the bail application. A `Jan Aakrosh` morcha was organised in Vashi in Navi Mumbai in protest against `love jihad` and `land jihad`. Several hundred protesters marched for about 3 km from Vashi`s Blue Diamond Chowk to Shivaji Chowk on Sunday raising slogans and carrying placards and banners. They demanded enactment of laws to prevent "love jihad and land jihad". A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who participated in the morcha warned of dire consequences if such incidents are not stopped. Love jihad" is a term often used by right-wing activists to allege a ploy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage.

A special PMLA court here on Monday granted bail to Mehul Thakur, director of Viva Group, in a money laundering case, observing that the jail atmosphere is "absolutely not conducive" to overcome his sickness. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Thakur in January 2021 for allegedly having diverted more than Rs 196 crore from Housing Development Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) to Viva Group through a number of defunct firms.
