The rupee fell sharply by 47 paise to settle at 87.19 against the US dollar on Tuesday due to month-end dollar demand by importers amid uncertainty over US trade tariffs. Elevated greenback against major crosses and sustained FII outflows also contributed to the decline in the domestic unit, forex traders said.

Maharashtra’s Industry Department has been directed to take the initiative in boosting IT data centres and promoting the pharmaceutical sector by providing the necessary infrastructure for the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) industry in the Thane region, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said today. A meeting was held at the committee room of the Deputy CM in Mantralaya to discuss various aspects of Thane’s development under the initiative of the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA). Present at the meeting were MITRA’s CEO Praveen Pardeshi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Deputy CM Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary Navin Sona, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Abha Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing Department Valsa Nair, Principal Secretary of the Water Supply Department Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary of the Information and Technology Department Parag Jain Nainutia, Secretary of the Industry Department P. Anbalagan, MIDC CEO P. Velarasu, and Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
