Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Man gets 2-year jail term for threat call to harm PM Modi, Adityanath using Dawood name
A Mumbai court has sentenced a man to two years in jail for making a threat call to police and claiming underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was offering him money to kill PM Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, noting showing sympathy to the accused was not justified.
In a verdict delivered on March 29 in the 2023 case, First Class Judicial Magistrate (Esplanade Court) Hemant Joshi dismissed the defence`s argument that the accused, Kamran Khan, was mentally unstable.
The magistrate noted that no evidence was produced by the accused to support his claim on mental health.
The court found Khan guilty of offences under sections 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Besides handing him two years imprisonment, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
As per the prosecution, the accused made a call to the Mumbai police`s main control room in November 2023, wherein he threatened that he would blow up the state-run J J Hospital.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Waqf bill: Why govt meddling in matters of faith, even temples own properties, says NCP (SP) leader
Questioning the logic behind the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Jitendra Awhad on Wednesday said the government should not "interfere" in the matters of faith, claiming that several temples in India are owners of properties.
The bill, which seeks to improve the functioning of Waqf properties, address complexities, ensure transparency and introduce technology-driven management, is being debated in Lok Sabha.
"What is the need to interfere in Waqf properties? The least the government can do is to prevent misuse (of Waqf properties)," Awhad told reporters.

Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Macrotech alleges sibling`s firm fabricated documents to use `Lodha` brand; HoABL denies charge
In a twist in the family feud, Abhishek Lodha-run Macrotech Developers on Wednesday alleged younger brother Abhinandan`s firm fabricated documents to misuse the company`s brand name to further its business interests.
The allegations were denied by an entity run by Abhinandan Lodha.
In an exchange filing months after the Bombay High Court asked the siblings to amicably resolve the dispute over the usage of the "Lodha" brand name, Macrotech alleged a conspiracy by the younger brother`s `House of Abhinandan Lodha` (HoABL) to fabricate documents to misuse the company`s goodwill, brand and registered trademarks.
