Four members of a family were injured after allegedly beaten by a mob for objecting to loud music playing on a DJ set up while it was passing outside their house during Ganesh idol immersion in Pune, police said.

Police said that the family objected to the loud music as they were mourning the death of a member.

"On September 25 while a Ganapati Immersion procession passing through near Somatne Phata in Shinde Vasti, a local resident Sunil Shinde requested the Ganpati Mandal not to play DJ music while passing through their home as they were mourning the death of his 16-year-old son who died just 9 days ago," police said.

"After objecting to the music a small scuffle broke out between the Ganpati Mandal and some members of the family but they stopped the music and moved ahead for immersion. Later at around 11 PM while returning from the immersion site to take revenge some members of Ganpati Mandal came back and started beating victim Sunil Shinde and other family members using iron rods. All have them received injuries in the incident," the official added.

Police said that a total of 21 people have been arrested and their custody has been granted by the court till October 1.

"After receiving the complaint from the victims we registered the case and arrested 21 people including two women and various sections of IPC and produced all of them before the court. Court had granted police custody till 1 October," police said.

Police have registered a case under sections 307,323 of IPC along with the Maharashtra Police Act and Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman was arrested for alleged abduction of a one-and-half years old boy within 12 hours of the incident in suburban Malad, police said on Friday.

Sonam Sahu, the accused, allegedly gave Rs 200 to the boy's sister and sent her off to buy biscuits when they were playing outside their house on Thursday evening.

As the girl went to the shop, the accused allegedly took the boy and fled, an official said.

Sahu was nabbed on the basis of technical surveillance and the boy was reunited with his family, he added.

Further probe is on, he said. (With inputs from Agencies)
