With Mumbai being the only city in the state where the vaccination drive was carried out on Saturday, the 12 vaccination centres functioned with lesser staff. Despite running at half the capacity, the BMC still managed to achieve 80 per cent of its target.

The 12 centres were running with 39 booths, where 6,351 people out of 7,923 registered healthcare staff were vaccinated. Nine-odd beneficiaries reported adverse effects and were kept under observation for 30 minutes, before being discharged. The CoWin app also reportedly ran smoothly, officials said.

The BMC is now planning to start a drive for front-line workers from next week onwards, said Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani. “We have registered about 1.7 lakh front-line workers and are aiming at starting the drive from Wednesday onwards.”
